  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon fish sauce
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon barbecue sauce
  • Pinch of salt

For the slaw:

  • cups shredded purple cabbage
  • ¼ cup diced red pepper
  • ½ cup shredded carrots

Instructions

Prepare the burger:

  • Mix first 7 ingredients in a mixing bowl and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  • Once chilled, divide ground beef mixture into 4 balls and flatten each into a patty shape, pressing centers down to keep the burgers flat.
  • Cook your burgers on a grill or in a frying pan for 4–5 minutes on each side for medium. Temperature should be 140- 145°F. Remove burgers to a plate, cover with foil, and allow to rest for 10 minutes while you grill the pineapple and buns.
  • To serve: place a ring of pineapple on the bottom of the bun, followed by the burger, slaw, extra barbecue sauce, and top of bun.

Prepare the slaw:

  • In a small bowl, mix together dressing ingredients. Place slaw ingredients in a larger bowl, add dressing, and toss to combine.
